Planting has started in Kikule!

Florence visited the library on Friday. Her brother Mutunga, who has been instrumental in having the library built, was busy in his fields planting maize. There are two wet seasons in Kenya. This one is referred to as the short rains since there will only be about two-three months where it rains most days. It is critical to get the crops planted now so that not a day of the growing season is lost.
Florence found Mutunga with two oxen, ploughing his field. She gave him a hand and he walked behind with maize seeds, planting as they went.

This is great news that the rain has started. We hope to move forward with a rain water harvesting system soon so that the community will have fresh clean drinking water when they visit the library.
